Katrina was my golden bride, she wanted to be ethereal with a pop of colour and this vibe matched her personality perfectly. She is a very go with the flow, free spirit kind of woman but when she spoke you were 100% focused on her because she is so eloquent! I adored how each of my brides knew themselves so well they chose fabric and designs that suited not only their styles but personalities as well, this is something I stress to my brides. So many people come to me for a custom dress and they want something so different then themselves, but I always say; 1, you want to be comfortable and 2, you still want to be you!
My first worry about the email I got from Maya was that she was in love with a particular floral fabric rather than the actually design of the dress. So often brides send me pictures of what they want and without knowing it, they have fallen in love with the fabric and not the actual style of the dress, and sourcing custom fabric is rarely an option. But after chatting with Maya she was 100% sure she wanted a floral wedding gown and was open to fabric options, but that it really was the design of the gown that she loved.
Mayas’ gown was the most unique design I have done, because even though we had a basic plan, she was very open to changing the style to what looked best on her. So we tested out many design options; adding and subtracting until we came to this final beauty. I want to thank Maya for being an incredible bride, her dress got taken apart and put back together many, many times to add in new details and in the end all of our hard work paid off, because she was a perfectly unique and stunning bride.
This Bridal Story is one that truly spoke to me, not only because Sylvie wore Copious on her wedding day, but because it was an elopement and I have always loved elopement stories! Sylvie and Chris had only been dating a short time when he asked her to join him on a trip to NYC and although her friends thought she was crazy for jetting off with a guy she hadn’t known that long, Sylvie knew it was meant to be. They both had travelled to New York before, but after this trip together, it became a special place for them as a couple.
Knowing they were truly going to elope, Sylvie knew she wanted a special dress for their wedding day, but didn’t want to go the traditional route for a wedding gown. After hearing about Rent Frock Repeat from a couple friends, her husband suggested stopping in to check it out. She didn’t have a specific style in mind, but wanted a dress that went with her short hair, and it was actually her husband you choose the Copious dress. Knowing it was a departure from her more minimalist look, Sylvie was pleasantly surprised when she tried it on and realized it was the one, “I absolutely loved how beautiful and fun the dress was, it was perfect for an elopement in NYC!”
A wedding day isn’t complete without stunning photos to remind the couple of that special day and when you are eloping in a different city that can be tricky. But IHNY was the perfect option as they specialize in couples coming to NYC that are getting engaged or married. Sylvie and her husband had their gorgeous photos taken in SoHo & the Flatiron District, areas that they visit when they are in NYC. This area is well known for their incredible restaurants and being foodies, it was perfect that they ended there so they could head to Eleven Madison to treat themselves to a dinner fit for newlyweds!
Brides’ Final Thoughts on Her Wedding Day:
“I am so grateful for my husband who picked that dress, for you who designed it, for my stylist Camille who helped me accessorize it perfectly, for the makeup artist and my photographers who captured the day so perfectly. Because of my short hair, I was feeling like it wasn't the “social norm” for a bride, so I was worried that I was not going to find a look that I would feel confident in. But WOW, was I ever happy. My dress made me feel so stylish and put together. It was fun, comfortable and so fitting for an elopement in NYC! We truly loved our elopement, it was a perfect day!”
