    Bridal Story- Sylvie

This Bridal Story is one that truly spoke to me, not only because Sylvie wore Copious on her wedding day, but because it was an elopement and I have always loved elopement stories! Sylvie and Chris had only been dating a short time when he asked her to join him on a trip to NYC and although her friends thought she was crazy for jetting off with a guy she hadn’t known that long, Sylvie knew it was meant to be. They both had travelled to New York before, but after this trip together, it became a special place for them as a couple.

When they started to talk about marriage and what their wedding day would look like, they considered their friends and family, “however, after reflecting on it, the main goal was to be married to each other, so we chose “us.”” I was so happy when I read this! They just wanted it to be their day and obviously NYC was the perfect location.

Knowing they were truly going to elope, Sylvie knew she wanted a special dress for their wedding day, but didn’t want to go the traditional route for a wedding gown. After hearing about Rent Frock Repeat from a couple friends, her husband suggested stopping in to check it out. She didn’t have a specific style in mind, but wanted a dress that went with her short hair, and it was actually her husband you choose the Copious dress. Knowing it was a departure from her more minimalist look, Sylvie was pleasantly surprised when she tried it on and realized it was the one, “I absolutely loved how beautiful and fun the dress was, it was perfect for an elopement in NYC!”

A wedding day isn’t complete without stunning photos to remind the couple of that special day and when you are eloping in a different city that can be tricky. But IHNY was the perfect option as they specialize in couples coming to NYC that are getting engaged or married. Sylvie and her husband had their gorgeous photos taken in SoHo & the Flatiron District, areas that they visit when they are in NYC. This area is well known for their incredible restaurants and being foodies, it was perfect that they ended there so they could head to Eleven Madison to treat themselves to a dinner fit for newlyweds!

Brides’ Final Thoughts on Her Wedding Day:

“I am so grateful for my husband who picked that dress, for you who designed it, for my stylist Camille who helped me accessorize it perfectly, for the makeup artist and my photographers who captured the day so perfectly. Because of my short hair, I was feeling like it wasn't the “social norm” for a bride, so I was worried that I was not going to find a look that I would feel confident in. But WOW, was I ever happy. My dress made me feel so stylish and put together. It was fun, comfortable and so fitting for an elopement in NYC! We truly loved our elopement, it was a perfect day!”

    Holiday Gift Guide

It's that time of year when most people flock to the malls to get all their holiday shopping done, but if we are being honest, most of us don't really enjoy it. We are rushing through our list, buying items that aren't made well or unique and giving our hard earned money away to someone who doesn't deserve it.
Four years ago I slowly started buying more of my gifts from local artists and each year I spent less time at the mall and last year I challenged myself to buy all my gifts from local shops or artist and it was so rewarding watching my family open up gifts they were truly in love with cause of their uniqueness.
These are my favourite Top 10 that I have asked for (or might be giving;) ) this Christmas!holiday gift guide, Armed Jewelry and Hand Made Object Pillows and Copious gold and black holiday gown
kamik winter boots, kristy wilson ceramics, weirs lane lavendar, urban nest decor
If you are Toronto based a great place to check out some of the vendors on my list is the One of a Kind Show, Nov. 23- Dec. 3. Come visit me at Booth P49.
    Happy Holidays!

    Bridal Story- Danielle

My first interaction with Danielle was through Instagram over a year ago, her MOH tagged her in a post of my Kaja Wedding Gown and her reaction was like most, I need this! After a couple of days, she got in touch because she had fallen in love with the floral back detail of the Kaja Gown, but she had also tried on some wedding gowns locally and had fallen in love with the strapless style as well, so she asked if I could turn my Kaja Wedding Gown into a strapless gown. The tricky part was Danielle lived in Florida and we would never meet, instantly I was nervous about moving forward because I had never made a corset/strapless gown without fitting it personally.

What made me stop and further think on working with her was how nice Danielle was and how genuinely in love she was with my design. Through her messages’ I could feel that she had found her dress, she had said YES to Copious and I just couldn’t disappoint her.  I instantly did what I do with all clients when embarking on something new; I am honest with them. I laid out the step by step process, so she was aware of what we would be going through, because it really is a relationship that you are committing too.

Anytime I get to work with a bride on a custom gown it is a special relationship I get to have with them, I am working with them to create that dream moment when they walk down the aisle and it is an incredible feeling being able to help them create their perfect look for the start of their marriage.

    Cinnamon Solstice

    Cinnamon Solstice

At the end of each season a twinge goes off in my heart for the passion, love and work that went into that collection. The S/S 2017 Collection, Cinnamon Solstice, was particularly passionate for me because the inspiration came at a moment when I was feeling directionless.

After being less than inspired for a collection that needed to be urgently designed, an incredible opportunity presented itself where I got to take a road trip with my best friend and see California for the first time.

At first I found the states' lack of colour bizarre to see. Being October my Canadian brain was trained to search for red, orange and yellows, but all I saw was browns and greens. As we continued our drive I began to see all the different shades of green, the pops of colour from the tropical plants and the endless blue sky. Just like that, visiting a new area, hitting the road with my friend who helps me navigate my thoughts and one of my best collections was born.

I am beyond lucky to know a group of creatives that collaborate so beautifully together. One thing I hate to do is put limitations on their own ideas, so going into this shoot I told them picture two girls on a road trip who have collected vintage items along the way. Together this is what we created...
